Accessibility Advisory Committee

 Selena Forsyth, Chair - (905) 885-2498

Terms of Reference

In 2002 The Municipality of Port Hope authorized the establishment of an Accessibility Advisory Committee to advise Council on matters that will enhance the ability of persons with disabilities to have equal access to opportunities, goods and services within the municipality. This authority comes from the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001.

The Terms of Reference have been created to assist the Committee by establishing a mandate and method of operation for the Committee respecting built form in municipally owned facilities. This document is intended to meet that need. It can be revised at any time by resolution of Council. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act was adopted in 2005 regarding access to goods and services for persons with disabilities. Both the private and public sectors have a responsibility to be conversant with the legislation and comply with the prescribed time lines.
