Mission Statement
"To enhance the quality of life for the Municipality of Port Hope residents through the provision of leisure and recreation services."
Goal Statements
To ensure all services provided by the Department are safe, accessible and affordable.
- To develop, maintain, beautify and promote safe, accessible parks and open spaces.
- To ensure the provision of a variety of recreational and cultural facilities.
- To provide and develop a variety of creative programs for all age groups.
- To encourage and provide the opportunity for personal and professional development of staff that reflect the trends within leisure services.
- To perform administrative services and functions for the efficient operation of the Department.
- To promote volunteerism through supporting of projects and services related to Parks, Recreation and Culture.
- To actively promote the benefits of leisure services of the Department and its associated programs.
- To proactively plan future programs, open space, trails and recreation infrastructure.
- To ensure all programs and services reflect current trends and priorities.
- To ensure programs include the principles and philosophies associated with:
- Healthy child development and the principles of "High Five"
- Promoting physical activity for all
- Chronic disease prevention (e.g. obesity, heart disease, etc.)
- Being a "Youth Friendly Community"
- Active 2010
Community Development
The Committee shall assist with the development of new and innovative programs that positively affect the operation of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. These could include, but are not limited to: recreation infrastructure, access by all, joint use of community facilities, park acquisition and development, maintenance standards, promotion and marketing and staff and volunteer development.
The Committee will advocate the benefits of leisure services to the residents who use the services of Parks and Recreation. The advocacy will be based on the social, economic, personal and environmental benefits of the services to local residents.
The Committee shall liaise with community groups and individuals to ensure an awareness of needs of the residents. This assistance also includes developing and nurturing of new partnerships and collaborations.
The Committee shall assist when possible, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture and other community groups, to ensure all programs and services are accessible and attain the expected level of service to as many residents as possible within the Municipality.
The Committee shall assist with the implementation associated with volunteer management with special focus on recruitment and recognition.
