Councillor Ted Watts - Ward 1

Chair, Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee

Councillor Ted Watts was born and raised in Port Hope, the eldest of seven children born to Jean and Ted Watts Sr., a longtime Port Hope businessman and sportsman. Councillor Watts started his career at Crane Canada as office boy in 1955, moved to AMF Atomics in the accounting department, then to Davidson Rubber Company as Production Control and Sales Service Manager for nine years. In 1973, he joined General Electric in Toronto in its plastics division in Eastern Ontario sales then went on to Safety Supply Canada as their Eastern Ontario sales rep. In 1980, he assumed the Toronto District Sales Manager's position, then became Manitoba/Ontario product sales manager, and finally in 1984, moved into Corporate Accounts Management where he spent five years managing sales to the Federal Government across Canada, four years managing Ontario Hydro sales and six years managing sales to the Automotive Assembly Plants of General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Cami and Hyundai in Ontario and Quebec.

Councillor Watts was first elected to Council in 2003 and currently serves as chair of the Parks, Recreation Culture Committee and serves on the Cultural Advisory Committee and Vincent Massey Memorial Centre Committee.

Councillor Watts and his late wife Beverly (Branning) were married for 37 years and have three children: Kelly, Krista (Michael Devine) and Tracey (Gerry) and four grandchildren: Jason, Joshua, Jacob, and Brittany. Councillor Watts and his partner, Dorothy Lingard, widow of the late Norman Lingard, now share five children and six grandchildren, her children being Christopher, Penny (Ms. Rick Trumper) and their children: Heather and Bradley. The couple are also proud great-grandparents. Ted has always been an avid sportsman, playing and coaching various hockey and baseball teams in and around Port Hope. He was a member of the 1953 Juvenile "B" all Ontario Champions Legion Beavers baseball team.

Ted enjoys serving the people of his community and is looking forward to the balance of this term and the challenges and changes it will bring.
