Benefits of the PHAI
A New Beginning, A People Place
The Long Term Waste Management Facility End Use Advisory Committee's report of May 2006 builds on the desire of the Municipality of Port Hope for beneficial use of the Facility once it is closed. The report outlines concepts for the site where residents and visitors can enjoy playing or watching sporting events, take a peaceful walk through a variety of gardens and learn about the history of the area and of the cleanup. The 50 hectare site could become a world class destination based on the Environment First principles with Education / Heritage / Science Centres, gardens, a natural area, trails and passive and active recreation.

Waterfront Renewal
The Port Hope Project will allow the renewal of the Municipality's waterfront. Major sites such as the Western Beaches, the harbour and Centre Pier will be remediated allowing other or expanded uses. In addition, Cameco's Vision 2010 will involve cleaning up the Cameco lands and the construction of new buildings. The Municipality is planning a new East Marina as part of its waterfront redevelopment. View the Waterfront Renewal plan (289 kb pdf)
