FACILITIES AND DEPARTMENTS (Parks, Recreation & Culture)

The Parks, Recreation & Culture department makes all its facilities available for rental to individuals, community groups and organizations for meeting, parties, workshops, etc. Please use the contact information provided for each facility for more information.

The Jack Burger Sports Complex has had a long standing relationship with the residents of Port Hope and the surrounding area.  Included in the facility is a 1200 seat arena, a 25 metre pool, a therapy pool, whirlpool and sauna.  As an authorized provider of Red Cross and Lifesaving Society swim programs, children, youth, adults and seniors can participate in structured swim lessons or drop in for one of our open swim times.  Swim supplies are available at the pool side pro shop.  There are plenty of opportunities for making use of the ice surface and stop by the arena pro shop for skate sharpening or the canteen for a snack.  The Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is fortunate to have community organizations and businesses to work with to provide complimentary programs and services at Christmas and March Break.

 

Town Park Recreation Centre

The Town Park Recreation Centre has established itself as the centre of activity for the Municipality of Port Hope.  Housing the "Opportunities for Youth" Youth Centre, the Cameco Gymnasium, the B.A.A. Board Room, Port Hope Minor Soccer Canteen, Kinsmen Kitchen and two multi-purpose program spaces, the facility is used by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture for delivery of High Five Accredited children's programs and quality programs for youth, adults and seniors.  The Town Park and it's facilties are also home for the Port Hope Fall Fair, ACO Auction and other major community events.  This air conditioned facility is also home to the Summer Daycamp program, After School programs and the future location of the permanent Skate Park Facility.

The Ruth Clarke Activity Centre provides friendly surroundings and activities for all adults 55yrs+.  The Centre promotes involvement, commitment, goodwill and participation among groups and individuals within the membership and community. 

Annual membership to the Social Club at the Centre is available.  Nominal fees are applied to Social Club activities for participation.  The facility includes a Community Hall with kitchen, a lower lounge, meeting space and a small fitness centre. 

 

 

 

Canton Municipal Office

The Canton Municipal Office provides a variety of municipal services to residents of the Municipality of Port Hope.  As a facility of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture, various staff have offices there.  The community hall is used by many groups and should the need arise it has been designated as the Municipality's Emergency Operations Centre.  Office space has also been provided to the Northumberland O.P.P. and Northumberland MP Rick Norlock.  Municipal services are tax payments, bulky waste vouchers, wet waste tags, dog licenses, burn permits.  Office hours are Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm with 12-12:30pm closed for lunch break.
