Parks

Parks in the Municipality of Port Hope are officially opened on the first Monday in May (weather permitting) and close the first Monday in October. Once the parks are opened, the washrooms are open for public use and the diamonds are groomed and available for bookings. Use of parks prior to the opening date is at your own risk.

Wladyka Park (Rose Glen Rd.)
2 adult size ball diamonds, used for tournaments, lights on both diamonds, canteen operated by department staff, small playground behind the canteen, washrooms, picnic table shelter with approximately 8 tables, large parking lot

Kings Field (Victoria St. S)
1 small ball diamond, portable washroom, swings

Lions Recreation Centre (Gifford St.)
2 small ball diamonds (for T-ball), no lights, playground, portable washroom.

Welcome Park (Dale Rd. in Welcome)
3 ball diamonds with no lights (2 adult size & 1 child size), canteen (volunteers), playground, tennis court, washrooms

Memorial Park (Queen St.)
Bandshell, new accessible playground, picnic tables, washrooms behind Town Hall

Optimist Park (Cavan St.)
1 youth sized ball diamond, no lights, portable washroom, playground, picnic area (beside river)

Town Agricultural Park (McCaul St.)
Senior hardball diamond (with lights), Junior kids diamond (no lights), washrooms, playground, Fall Fair Centre (unheated structure) available to rent
for indoor events and used for vehicle storage in the winter months, tennis courts, soccer pitches (with lights) 2 large adult size in front of the Town Park Recreation Centre and child size pitches in the lower fields. Canteen operated by department staff.

4 ball diamonds (adult size), 1 with lights, canteen operated by department
staff, washrooms, playground


Special Events and Booking

Groups are required to book parks, ball diamonds and soccer pitches in advance by calling 905-885-2474. If your event includes food or alcohol it MUST be approved by Council and meet the Municipal Alcohol Policy and the Health Unit requirements. Parks are booked on a first come first served basis.

If you are planning a Special Event that will include use of parks, road closures, liquor licenses, etc., please contact our Special Events Coordinator at 905.885.2004.

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture maintains playground equipment in 20 locations around the Municipality. With the opening of Zac's Dream playground in Memorial Park (photo right), we are pleased to provide a fully accessible playground for children of all ages.

Our playgrounds are inspected on a regular basis to meet CSA standards. If you see damage to any of our playground
equipment, please report it as soon as possible to the Parks Manager at 905.753.2230.

 

Port Hope Skate Park

The skate park is now officially open!!  The Port Hope SK8 Park Committee has almost reached its goal of $363,192 but donations are still required (and much appreciated) - contact 905.753.2230 for more information on how you can help. 

Skateboarders, bmx bikers, and in-line skaters will love the new facility!
