For Immediate Release

Tuesday, August 4, 2020 - Port Hope, ON

The Port Hope Arts Festival returns on Saturday, August 8, with a fresh take on the event, including a virtual marketplace, art displays around town, a play reading over the radio, and more; all designed to capture the essence of the traditional festival and ensure that it can be enjoyed safely this summer.

“After seventeen years, the festival continues to draw creators from across the region to share their time, talents, and creations with us,” explains Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “The annual Arts Festival really highlights the importance that culture, the arts, and heritage plays in Port Hope – it is integral to the fabric of our community. While the event is taking a new shape this year, there are ample opportunities to engage with art, agriculture, and community that is accessible to all and allows for the festival to continue, in a smart, physically-distanced way.”

This year’s event boasts an exciting line up of music and art displays throughout the community, a play reading airing over our very own local radio, a virtual marketplace where you can source and purchase directly from the creators, and more.

The Arts Festival has a long tradition of interactive activities in Memorial Park, and this year families are invited to participate by following the chalk paint recipe posted on our Arts Festival webpage and add some colour to our neighbourhoods. Share your creativity on your driveways and sidewalks and post your creations on social media using the hashtag #porthope.

The Port Hope Farmers’ Market will also be open as usual, behind Town Hall. Visit this open-air market to find the freshest seasonal vegetables, baked goods, preserves and more. Market visitors are reminded to follow the directional signage posted and to use hand sanitizer or to wash their hands before entering and upon exiting the market.

Details of the event, including an interactive map of the virtual marketplace, are available online at porthope.ca/arts-festival.
