Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services was proud to partner with the Port Hope Firefighters Association (PHFFA), who hosted the launch of the Association’s Annual Toy and Gift Drive at Fire Station 1 on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and included a “Fill The Fire Truck” campaign kick-off.
“Of the many events our department participates in, this is one that we can look forward to for years to come,” explained Fire Chief C. Ryan Edgar, Director of Fire and Emergency Services for the Municipality of Port Hope. “The holidays are a time to give back to those in need, and our participation in the Association’s Annual Toy and Gift Drive is a wonderful way for the Municipality to contribute to this very important initiative.”
For several years, the PHFFA has sponsored this holiday initiative, which has successfully collected hundreds of toys and gifts for local families, with generous donations from the community and the firefighting family.
“The Association has been actively contributing to the Salvation Army Giving Tree for many years,” explained Mark Chard, a local firefighter and coordinator of the annual drive. “Each year, we would like to increase the amount of gifts collected, to ensure that we meet the needs of each family celebrating Christmas in our community.”
There are several opportunities for the community to participate in the campaign this year, by bringing new, unwrapped gifts or toys to the following locations/events:
Unwrapped toys and gifts will be accepted until Saturday, December 15, at which point the Salvation Army will collect all items for distribution to local families in need.
