Municipality of Port Hope Promotes Fire Prevent Week, October 6-12

For Immediate Release

Monday, September 30, 2019 - Port Hope, ON

Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services is urging residents in the Municipality of Port Hope to make and practice a fire safety escape plan during this year’s Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme of Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 6-12, 2019, is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape.”

“Develop a home fire escape plan. It could save your life. If a fire occurred in your home, would your family get out safely?” asks Fire Chief C. Ryan Edgar, Director of Fire and Emergency Services for the Municipality of Port Hope. “Everyone must know what to do and where to go when the smoke alarm sounds. Families should make and practice a home fire escape plan.”

Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services will be hosting an Open House at each fire station on October 8, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in support of Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign. Each fire station will have activities, fire safety information and most of all, FUN. Come by and bring the family to one or more of the fire stations. This year the Inflatable Fire Safety House will be at the Welcome station. Children are invited to participate in the Junior Firefighter Combat Challenge at the Port Hope Station.

Chief Edgar is inviting local resident children to complete their Home Fire Escape Plan along with their families for a chance for their child to be Fire Chief for a Day on November 7th.

Forms can be obtained at the Fire Administration Office located at 245 Ontario Street or at www.porthopefire.ca. Completed home escape plans can be emailed to jhill-bower@porthope.ca, dropped off at the Fire Administration Office or at any station during the Open House.

Entries will be accepted until Friday, October 18th and the winner will be selected on Monday, October 21st.
