Interested in volunteering with the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department? Are you a student looking to complete your 40 hours of volunteering? We have many fun opportunities available throughout the year. All volunteers require a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search. A volunteer letter is available upon request. Contact the PRC Customer Service Assistant at KDewey@porthope.ca to get started.

Special Needs Programs

Volunteers are needed for various capacities in our Special Needs Programs.

Special Needs Art Group: Saturdays 10:00-11:30 am
Special Needs Shinny: Sundays 4:00-4:50 pm
Fun4Life: Mondays 1:30-3:30 pm, Wednesday 10:00-12:00 pm

Co-op and Placement

Are you in school and looking for a placement in Recreation? Let us know what you are interested in so we can connect you with the best opportunity possible. Choose from child and youth programs, seniors programs, aquatics, and parks/facilities.

Child/Youth Programs

Interested in teaching child and youth programs? Volunteer with our programs to get hands on experience. Interest in all areas are welcome (i.e. sports, cooking, crafts, etc).

Youth Centre Supervising

Looking for mature and fun loving volunteers to supervise the Youth Centre. Engage youth in activities, assist with homework and/or socialize.

Youth Action Committee

Are you a driven and enthusiastic leader ages 12-18? Join the Youth Action Committee to help develop youth recreation and culture throughout the Municipality of Port Hope!

Swimming Lessons

Volunteer during our swimming lessons. All volunteers must have a valid Bronze Cross and SFA to volunteer. Participants in the Water Safety Instructor course must complete a minimum of 8 hours volunteering prior to participating in the Step 4: Classroom and Pool portion of the course.

Older Adult Activities

The Ruth Clarke Activity Centre for Seniors offers a variety of recreational programming for older adults aged 55 and over. Programs are facilitated by conveners who volunteer their time to organize, lead and teach older adults. Volunteers who can offer support for current programs are always welcome. As well, the Centre is continually looking to expand programming and welcomes unique skills for new activities to offer.

Day Camp

To volunteer with summer day camp, all volunteers must take the Leaders in Training and Councellors in Training programs.

Leaders In Training

This mentoring program for ages 12-13 is designed to enhance leadership skills, teamwork abilities, problem solving and more. A minimum of 24 hours of volunteer service is required to pass the course.

Counsellors in Training

Counsellors in Training will learn day camp and program procedures, HIGH FIVE fundamentals and more. For ages 13-15 who have completed Leaders In Training. A minimum of 24 hours of
volunteer service is required to pass the course.

Volunteer Northumberland

Volunteer Northumberland is an online platform that allows community organizations to promote volunteer opportunities in their community. Look for the Municipality of Port Hope’s events and programs and sign up at www.volunteernorthumberland.ca
