The Port Hope Canada Day parade will take place on Monday July 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
The Parade has been rerouted slightly, to account for the construction taking place in the downtown. The 2024 parade route will begin at the traditional start location, the intersection of Ridout Street and Bramley, travel down Walton Street, turn south onto Pine Street, east on Augusta Street and end in the Town Hall parking lot.
All local businesses and organizations are invited to join the lively parade lineup. Parade participants are encouraged to design floats and costumes that connect to a Canada Day theme.
There is no fee to participate in this community celebration. All participants are asked to review and abide by parade rules and regulations. Please complete your parade registration by June 28, 2024.

2024 Parade Participant Guidelines |
There is no fee to participate in this community celebration. All participants are asked to review and abide by parade rules and regulations. Please complete your parade registration by June 28, 2024.
Due to the route changes this year - we are restricting the size of float entry. Please NO big rigs and transport trucks. Please consider the Pine Street slope when designing floats and preparing walkers.
Guidelines for Float Captains:
- Staging Area: All Floats and walking parties are to line up along Bramley Street South between 10 - 10:30 a.m. Please work together in the busy staging area to make room for fellow parade participants and keep safe. Participating floats and walking parties must line up in single file along the streets - no double parking (unless directed by a Parade Marshal).
- Parade order: There is no parade order. The Parade Marshal will pull entries from Bramley Street. Please be patient in the staging area. Your entry will be called upon to head down the parade route, in due time.
- Parade start: Parade starts at exactly 11:00 a.m. (rain or shine). Please dress layered for the weather. If you have questions on parade day, a Parade Marshall will be at the intersection of Ridout Street and Bramley Street.
- Parade route: The Parade will travel down Ridout/Walton, turn right on Pine Street and left onto Augusta Street. The route has been adjusted this year due to construction in the downtown.
- End of parade: The parade will end in the Town Hall parking lot - providing space for participant dismount. Please follow the direction of Parade Marshals in this area to maintain flow to prevent a backup and keep participants safe.
- Please inform all parents and participants of parade guidelines & rules. We suggest that float captains arrange a meeting place with parents in one location so that they escort the children out of the loading area to meet their guardians for pickup. Carpooling to and from staging areas is highly recommended.
Parade Participant Rules:
-
All participants are requested to incorporate a Canada theme in their decorations, float design and/or costumes. (Please ensure vehicles towing floats are decorated as well.)
- Entries must be entertaining to a family audience, especially for children.
- All participants must register to participate in the parade.
- Parade participants shall not consume alcohol and will refrain from smoking during their participation in the parade.
- For safety reasons, throwing of candy or any objects is not allowed. Anyone wanting to hand out candy can do so with designated, walking distributors.
- No entry will hand out literature, pamphlets, leaflets, brochures, flyers or any other written or printed materials to parade spectators, without prior parade committee approval.
- There will be no premature exiting of the parade route.
- Please ensure your group stays together. It is important to maintain the distance between the float in front of you – not too close, but not too far. This is an important safety note, but it also helps maintain a steady flow. If you are performing or dancing, do so while in motion; stopping will create unnecessary gaps in the parade.
- Automobiles for commercial advertising are limited to one per business.
- Animal Entries: All entries are required to clean up behind their animals along the route. Please be courteous to the other participants.
- Any floats with small children must have at least one (1) adult present for supervision.
- No entry shall exceed 12 feet in height. No transport trucks or big rigs this year.
- Name of group/entry must be displayed and easily identifiable.
- An entry may be refused up to the start of the parade should the entry not meet parade guidelines or differ drastically from their approved entry form.
- Floats with generators or other possible fire hazards must provide suitable fire extinguishing equipment.
