The Role of Marketing and Tourism

  • Business Investment and Growth: The Marketing and Tourism department promotes the Municipality to visitors and local residents as well as those looking to establish new businesses or relocate existing businesses to our vibrant community.

The Marketing and Tourism department works closely with the Heritage Business Improvement Area (HBIA), the Chamber of Commerce, the County of Northumberland and other business promotion and advocacy organizations to foster our local businesses and encourage new business to locate in the Municipality.

The Municipality works cooperatively with our commercial real estate partner to advance the sale of property in our business park.
Our role is to serve and consult with business providing advice and assistance in site selection through the provision of a list of available lands and buildings. Marketing and Tourism maintains local industry statistics and economic data for the Municipality.

Efforts include liaison with Provincial and Federal funding agencies and connections to sector specific business implementation resources.

  • Filming: The Municipality is proud to partner with production companies in the film and television industry. The community offers breathtaking vistas, an abundance of heritage properties, and eclectic business interiors ideal suited for filming. Port Hope’s authentic downtown streetscape lends itself to both historic period pieces and modern small town productions. Download our Filming Policy.

  • Tourism promotion: The Municipality deploys an arsenal of tactics and strategies to stimulate tourism and tourist spending in the community. Port Hope’s community strategic plan calls for the establishment of Port Hope as a tourism marketing presence. Marketing and Tourism connects various business entities – restaurants, inns, attractions and  the Capitol Theatre – creating a depth of experience for visitors and promoting more reasons to not only visit but to stay overnight. Visit Port Hope Tourism website.

  • Visitors' Information Centre: The Municipality’s Visitor Centre is open Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 4pm.
