Paying Your Property Taxes
There are various ways that you can pay your property taxes in the Municipality of Port Hope: in person, by mail or through on-line banking.
For income tax purposes please refer to your 2021 final property tax bill that was mailed out in June 2021.
E-Billing
E-billing is available for tax and water/wastewater accounts. An e-bill includes the same information as a paper bill and has many convenient benefits, including:
- Your bill delivered directly to your email inbox
- you will receive your bill quicker than if sent by mail
- you can print or save your bill for your records
- you are reducing paper waste

You can place your payment in the drop-box mail slot at Town Hall 56 Queen Street. All cheques are to be made payable to the “Municipality of Port Hope”. Please include your property tax bill payment stub or write your roll number on your cheque.

You can pay through your bank online using the payee names below. Your account number is the 19-digit property tax roll number starting with 1423. Please do not include the dashes when entering your account number.
If the payee name posted below is not working for you, contact your bank advisor. Please make your payment at least two business days before the due date.

Bank Institution
You can pay through your bank institution by telephone or in person. You will need your property tax payment stub to refer to your property tax roll number. Please make your payment at least two business days before the due date.
Mortgage Company
We will provide your mortgage company a copy of your interim and final tax bills to submit the payments on your behalf. You will receive the final tax bill for income tax purposes with the mortgage company’s name listed on the top left of your tax bill.
Pre-Authorized Payment Plan
You can fill out our Property Tax Pre-Authorize Payment Plan Enrollment Application to sign up for one of the two pre-authorized payment plans. The monthly and the due date pre-authorize payment plans are explained below. Each plan includes an automatic withdrawal from your bank account. You can enroll at any time, however your property taxes must be paid up to date prior to enrolling.

Monthly Pre-Authorized Payment Plan |
The monthly pre-authorize payment plan includes twelve (12) withdrawals on the first business day of every month. The January to June withdrawals are based on approximately 50% of your property taxes from the previous year. The final property tax rate is established around the beginning of June. The amount you paid from January to June will be deducted from your final property tax amount. The amount remaining from that total will be divided between the July-December withdrawals. |
Due Date Pre-Authorized Payment Plan |
The due date pre-authorized payment plan includes four (4) withdrawals on the four (4) due dates. The interim installment due dates are around the end of February and April. The final installment due dates are around the end of June and September. |
