Garbage and Recycling

Garbage and recycling in Port Hope’s Urban and Rural Areas are managed by two organizations:
- Northumberland County is responsible for: garbage collection, organics, leaf and yard waste and additional waste disposal. For more information, you can:

NEW for 2026! Northumberland County no longer runs or manages the blue box program. This program is now managed by Circular Materials Ontario. For all recycling inquiries including missed pickups, bin sales or exchanges, etc call 1-888-852-4723 or email area8@millerwaste.ca.
Newly recycled products now include: Toothpaste tubes, deodorant sticks, takeout cup lids, styrofoam, chip bags, wrappers, food pouches, bubble wrap and pet food bags.

Residents in the rural area do not receive curbside collection. Rural residents can take household garbage and recycling to the Hope Transfer Station located at 4775 5th Line, Port Hope L1A 3V5.
Please note that this transfer station is only available for Port Hope rural residents and proof of residency is required.
