Back to School Safety Reminder

Many children are returning to school next week. Council, staff, and Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services want to remind everyone be prepared and stay safe. It is important to remember that traffic will be a little heavier on our streets as school buses and public transit are on regular routes, and more people are walking, cycling or driving to school. Sidewalk Closed and Parking Restricted at the Corner of Walton and John Street

Residents are advised that the sidewalk is closed and parking is restricted at the corner of John Street and Walton Street, until the end of November. These closures are required while foundation improvements are made to a local private building. The closures have been approved and will be inspected regularly by municipal staff. Notice of Public Meeting - Development Charges

On Tuesday, September 6, 2022 the Council of the Municipality of Port Hope will hold a Public Meeting, pursuant to section 12 of the Development Charges Act, 1997, as amended, to present and obtain public input on the Municipality’s proposed development charges (D.C.) By-law and underlying background study. The Public Meeting will take place during the regular Council meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers (56 Queen Street).

Sediment Removal at the Fish Ladder

We have been advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be conducting sediment removal at Corbett’s Dam (the Fish Ladder) to improve fish passage at the Ganaraska fishway.
This work has begun and will take place over the course of approximately seven days. It will involve the use of an excavator to remove the sediment that has deposited over several years at the upstream end of the fishway. Power Outage: Facility Closures

Update 7/18/22 at 10:30 – Power has been restored at Town Hall and the Development Team Office (5 Mill). These buildings are now open for all regular services.
Residents are advised that some of the downtown core is experiencing a power outage. As a result, Townhall and the Development Team Office (5 Mill) is closed as power, phone lines and IT services are down. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeframe for service restoration. We will provide updates when they are available.
