Sanitary Sewer Flushing
Residents are advised that vactor truck flushing and CCTV camera inspections of the sanitary sewer system will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and will occur until the end of June 2026. During this time, there will be minor traffic impacts and, for public and staff safety, occasional night work to avoid high traffic volumes.
Vactor truck flushing is an important maintenance task that cleans the sewer systems by using a high-pressure hose reel and vacuum to remove silt, debris, and tree root intrusions. This improves the overall quality of the infrastructure and helps to extend its useful life.
This year, staff will be working in:
- Quadrant 4 (north/central) – A section North of Jocelyn Street (between Cavan Street and Victoria Street North).
- Sewer Flushing: May 19 to May 22
- Sewer CCTV: May 19 to May 29
- Quadrant 4 (north/east) - A section North of Ward Street (between Rose Glen Road North and Hamilton Road).
- Sewer Flushing: May 25 to May 29
- Sewer CCTV: June 1 to June 12
- Quadrant 4 (south/east) - A section South of Ward Street (between Rose Glen Road South and Hamilton Road).
- Sewer Flushing: June 1 to June 5
- Sewer CCTV: June 15 to June 26
For a detailed look at the affected quadrants, view our quadrant map.
Residents in the affected quadrant are advised to ensure all floor drains and plumbing traps are filled with water and all toilet seats are in the down position. This will help minimize the chance of ‘blowback’. This is a discharge of air and water that typically identifies the incorrect installation of plumbing fixtures/plumbing venting, or plumbing ventilation obstructions. If ‘blowback’ occurs at your property please contact Environmental Services immediately by email or phone at 905-885-8760, so it can be appropriately addressed.
During this work, staff will also be using a CCTV sewer main camera to assess the condition of our sewer systems. This will help staff prioritize future maintenance activities. Please note that during this assessment process municipal staff use their cell phones for data entry and GIS mapping.
