Burn Ban in Effect – July 15, 2026

Due to dry conditions and deteriorating air quality caused by ongoing wildland fires in northern Ontario, a Municipal-wide Open Air Burn Ban is being implemented in Port Hope, effective immediately.
All forms of open-air burning are strictly prohibited within the Municipality of Port Hope, including but not limited to:
- Backyard campfires or fire pits
- Brush and yard waste burning
- Agricultural burns
- Fireworks
- Any fire not contained within a CSA-approved outdoor appliance (where permitted)

Wildfire Smoke Affecting Air Quality in Port Hope

The Municipality of Port Hope is receiving inquiries from residents regarding the smell of smoke in the community. Smoke from ongoing forest fires in northern Ontario is affecting air quality across many parts of the province, including our area.
Residents may notice smoky conditions or reduced air quality as weather patterns shift and carry smoke into the region.

A Special Council Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Committee Room at Town Hall, 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.

Heat Warning: Municipal Cooling Centres

Residents are advised that Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the area. Daytime highs are expected to be 30°C to 37°C with humidex values of 38°C to 45°C. The heat warning is forecasted to end either Wednesday or Thursday.

Canada Day Closures

Residents are reminded that municipal administrative buildings, municipal transit services, recreation facilities, the Port Hope Public Library branches, and the Hope Transfer Station will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 for the Canada Day holiday. All municipal staff services will resume at their usual operating hours on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
