Bell Canada Infrastructure Upgrades – Walton Street
Bell Canada will be completing telecommunications upgrades on Walton Street, tentatively starting March 9. This work involves replacing aging copper lines and updating some newer lines that were installed during the Walton Street Reconstruction. During the reconstruction, most of Bell’s work focused on upgrading the underground infrastructure that supports their cables, they are now returning to update the actual lines.
Directdore Inc., working on behalf of Bell Canada, is anticipated to be on Walton Street (from Pine Street to Mill Street) from March 9 to March 27 to complete this work. They have obtained a Road Occupancy Permit for these activities. Disruptions will be kept as minimal as possible. Closures will shift as work progresses, and all efforts will be made to maintain access for residents, businesses, and pedestrians.
Expected Impacts
- There will be no drilling or digging. All work involves pulling new cables through existing Bell maintenance holes.
- March 9 to 27 (only weekdays)
- Temporary closures will occur as crews move along the street, including:
- Rolling closure of 4 parking spaces (Bell has paid for the parking spaces for the duration of the project).
- Occasional temporary lane and sidewalk closures near the maintenance holes.
- Possible short-term road closures of small sections to support safe work zones (only if necessary).
