Long-Time Community Leader Honoured Through Park Renaming Ceremony

This weekend, members of Council, Municipal staff, family, friends, community organizations and residents gathered at Kinsmen Park to celebrate the life and legacy of long-time Councillor, Deputy Mayor and dedicated community volunteer Jeff Lees through the official renaming of the park to Jeff Lees Memorial Kinsmen Park.
The ceremony recognized Jeff’s extraordinary contributions to the Municipality of Port Hope and the many community organizations he served. The event featured remarks from municipal representatives, colleagues, family members and members of the Port Hope Kinsmen, followed by the unveiling of the park’s new name and sign.
For more than 25 years, Jeff served on Municipal Council, helping guide important decisions and initiatives that shaped the community. Beyond municipal government, he was widely known for his commitment to volunteerism, dedicating countless hours to local organizations.
“Jeff's impact on Port Hope extends far beyond his years of public service,” said Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “He was an advocate for this community and a dedicated volunteer. Renaming this park in his honour ensures that future generations will know the lasting contributions he made to Port Hope.”
The Municipality extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who attended the ceremony and to those who supported the renaming initiative. The newly named Jeff Lees Memorial Kinsmen Park will serve as a lasting tribute to a man whose dedication helped shape Port Hope and whose legacy will continue to inspire residents for years to come.
