Last night at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Hope, the Municipality hosted its annual Civic Awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding residents whose service and dedication continue to strengthen the community.
“Port Hope is made stronger by the passion and generosity of its residents, and the Civic Awards provide an important opportunity to recognize those who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference,” said Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “It is an honour to join my fellow Council members in celebrating individuals whose contributions help make Port Hope a welcoming, compassionate, and vibrant community.”
Presented through community nominations, the Civic Awards celebrate individuals and groups whose dedication and service have made a lasting impact across Port Hope. Honours are awarded in a wide range of categories, including Agriculture, Arts and Culture, Athletics, Environment, Heritage, Philanthropy, and Community Service, along with special recognitions for Outstanding Youth and Outstanding Citizen.
This year, Owen Price was recognized with the Outstanding Youth Award, while Peter Abrams received the Outstanding Citizen Award. Together, they exemplify a deep commitment to volunteerism, leading by example and inspiring others throughout the community to give back.

The evening also featured performances by local talents including Cale Crowe, Port Hope Piper Brodick Ewing, Cassandra and Alexia Tabugan members of Sounds of the Next Generation, as well as the St. Mary’s Treblemakers, with York Bell Smith serving as the master of ceremonies.
Post-ceremony, attendees enjoyed refreshments in the Capitol Theatre lobby, from a selection of local businesses that included Bualai Taste of Thai, Papas Pizzaland, Aspira Retirement Living, Garden Hill Farmers Market, Roseglen Village Retirement Living, and Milly’s.
