Members of Council and staff from the Works and Engineering department gathered for a physically distanced grand opening photo opportunity on Pemberton Drive this afternoon to mark the official opening of the newly completed capital project for the Municipality.
“Completion of Pemberton Drive is the next step toward expanding our Business Park and growing our capacity to increase commercial and industrial opportunities,” notes Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “While working through the pandemic this year has presented some challenges, I am pleased to announce that the project was completed on schedule, and within budget, while implementing additional safety measures for the wellbeing of those working onsite.”
The Pemberton Drive Extension project creates a new east-west collector for the Business Park by extending Pemberton Drive from Fox Road to Henderson Street. The project includes a new roadway, street lighting, storm sewer, storm water management facility, sanitary sewer, and watermain.
The Pemberton Drive extension project was identified as a budget priority as it provides access to 20 hectares of serviced industrial lands immediately accessible to Highway 401, Canada’s major industrial and commercial corridor, in a commercially competitive and desirable location in Eastern Ontario. The industrial land will be specifically developed to promote and foster innovation, collaboration and cluster development by targeting firms and types of businesses that see the value and opportunity to improve their productivity and competitiveness by co-locating and sharing industrial equipment and services.
The approved 2019 Capital budget for this project totals $1,768,000 and is comprised of funding from the Federal Gas Tax, Eastern Ontario Development Fund, water and wastewater reserve funds, the hydro reserve, tax levy, and contributions from industry, including Maple Lodge Farms.
