Proposed Speed Reduction Measures - By-law Amendment

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, March 15, Works and Engineering Committee considered a report recommending several speed reduction measures. The proposed amendments to the Traffic and Parking By-law include the following speed reductions. 

Proposed Amendments Prescribed Speed Limits

The below speed reduction changes are being proposed:

Current 80km/hr zone to be reduced to 50km/hr 

Rural areas:

  • Cranberry Road from Dale Road to the 401 overpass/existing 50 km/hr
  • Deerpark Rd From County Rd 2, northerly to the 4th Line

Current 60km/hr zone to be reduced to 50km/hr

Urban areas:

  • Peter Street, from the easterly limits of Rose Glen Road, easterly to the Municipal limits
  • Toronto Road, from 40 metres north of the north limit of Percival Street northerly to the south limits of Jocelyn Street
  • Toronto Road, from the south limit of Jocelyn Street to a point 650 metres north

Rural areas:

  • Lakeshore Road, from the Lot line between Lots 9 and 10, Concession 1 westerly 365.76 metres
  • Lakeshore Road, from the west limit of Baulch Road to the east limit of East Townline Road at the westerly limit of the Municipality, save and except that portion of the highway known as the "Underpass" at the Railway Right-of-Ways (posted as 30 km/hr)
  • Choate Road (east and westerly to Cranberry Road), from the intersection of Choate Road and County Road 74 to the Highway 401 underpass
  • 5th Line from County Road 10 east to County Road 28
  • Tinkerville Road, from County Road 9 to a point north 0.5 kilometres (ends at closed road)
  • 4th Line, from the Road Allowance between Lots 24 and 25, westerly a distance of 2 kilometres to the east limit of County Road 65
  • Zion Road, from the north limit of County Road 2 northerly to the 4th Line
  • Marsh Road, from the east limit of Baulch Road to the west limit of Brand Road
  • 6th Line from County Road 65 westerly approximately 2.8 kilometres to the westerly limit of the Municipality at East Townline Road
  • Jamieson Road, from the 5th Line northerly approximately 2 kilometres to the 6th Line

Current 50km/hr zone to be reduced to 40km/hr 

Urban areas:

The speed limit within 150 metres of a designated Pedestrian Crosswalks is also being recommended for a reduction from the existing 50 km/hr. to 40 km/hr. This includes:

  • Peter Street, 150 metres east and west of the existing Pedestrian Crosswalk located immediately east of Nelson Street
  • Ontario Street, 150 metres east and west of the existing Pedestrian Crosswalk located at Ontario and Bloomsgrove Avenue

Rural areas:

  • Walker Road from Oak Hill Road to the 10th Line
  • 10th Line from Walker Road to County Road 10

Current 50km/hr zone to be reduced to 30km/hr 

Urban areas:

  • Walton Street from Pine Street to Mill Street
  • John Street from Walton Street to Augusta Street
  • Ontario Street from Walton Street to Barrett Street
  • Queen Street from Walton Street to Augusta Street
  • Pine Street S from Walton Street to Augusta Street
  • Percival Street from Toronto Road to Victoria Street North
  • Scriven Boulevard from Percival Street to Freeman
  • Rose Glen Road from Ward Street to 150m north of Beatrice Strong
  • Toronto Road from Lavinia Street to Bruton Street
  • Victoria Street north from Mars Street to Ralston Drive
  • Ward Street- from Elgin Street to Rose Glen Road
  • Deblaquire Street from Ward Street to Croft Street
  • Highland Drive from Pine Street N extension (east side of Jack Burger Sports Complex) westerly to Victoria Street South

Proposed Amendments for Restricted Parking

The below parking restrictions are being proposed:

  • King Street (east side) from Peter Street to Madison Street
  • Madison Street (south side) from King Street westerly to a distance approximately 30 metres
  • Mill Street South (east side) from Shuter Lane to Madison Street
