A.W.E.S.O.M.E.E. Festival to Celebrate Local Environmental Initiatives Planned for Port Hope
For Immediate Release
Monday, October 28, 2019 - Port Hope, ON
The Municipality of Port Hope Centre of Excellence for Environmental Sustainability Working Group is pleased to host a free environmental festival called A.W.E.S.O.M.E.E. Fest on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Town Park Recreation Centre.
“This initiative is a stepping stone towards the planning and implementation of our Climate Action Plan, which was recently approved by Council,” notes Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “We are encouraged by the number of groups and individuals that are coming together to inspire our residents and incorporate innovative ideas into their daily lives, in an effort to make Port Hope a healthier and greener community.”
A.W.E.S.O.M.E.E. is an acronym developed by the organizers of the event, which stands for “Air-Water-Earth: Showcasing Our Multifaceted Environmental Endeavours.” The term was coined by event chairperson, Greg Burns, who envisioned this festival as an opportunity for local schools, community based organizations, businesses, and individuals to highlight the ways in which they can “green” Port Hope.
“The exhibitors have inspiring stories about how they are making a difference in our local environment,” adds Mr. Burns. “Our goal is to inspire, educate, and engage local residents to adopt new and creative solutions to improve our environment. We hope that this festival will be a catalyst for “green” change.”
The family-friendly event is free and open to all members of the community. Additional details are available at porthope.ca/events/awesomee-fest
