Temporary Closure of Beaches

Residents are advised that the West Beach, East Beach, and the Caldwell Street Beach access point will be temporarily closed, beginning on Friday, July 3 at 7 a.m. until Monday, July 6 at 10 a.m.

Parking Restriction Reminder - Marsh Street

A reminder to residents that parking on the road along Marsh Street (near the West Beach and the Water Plant) is not permitted. This includes the turn-around at the end of the street, as this area is designated as a fire route and is also used by our bulk water haulers to back up their large trucks. 'No Parking' signage is posted along the roadway and significant fines may be issued to those who do not comply.
Additionally, beach visitors are discouraged from parking on the grass. Please...
Tax Due Date Reminder

Residents are reminded that first installment of final tax is due Monday, June 29, 2020; however, penalty for non-payment of the first final tax installment and any subsequent payments will not be applied until the first of the month following the lifting of the Provincial Emergency Declaration.
Community members on a pre-authorized payment plan who require a deferred payment can email tax@porthope.ca and will not be charged interest on the deferred payments for 2020.

Canada Day Fireworks Ban

Residents are advised that, per Council direction, the sale and use of fireworks is not permitted for the 2020 Canada Day holiday. This means that the Municipality will not be hosting its annual Canada Day fireworks display, and that residents may not discharge their own fireworks on July 1.
The ban on the fireworks display supports the Provincial Emergency Order to limit events and social gatherings to no more than ten people. The ban will also address resourcing for Fire and Emergency Services...

The Municipality of Port Hope is saddened to learn of the passing of Ms. Elizabeth (Betty) Collins, former Mayor of the Town of Port Hope, who died on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, in her 89th year.
Ms. Collins blazed a historic trail for women in politics in this community. First elected as a Councillor in 1988, she was acclaimed Reeve in 1991 and, soon thereafter, became the first female Mayor of the Town of Port Hope in 1993.
