Special Council Meeting - April 9, 2024

A Special Council Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.
At this meeting, Council members will participate in training as part of the ongoing 2022-2026 Council Professional Development. This training session is related to Asset Management Planning for Council members. No decisions will be made or considered as part of this training.

Upcoming Solar Eclipse Reminders and Closures

A reminder that on Monday, April 8, 2024, Northumberland will witness a rare celestial event as a total solar eclipse appears in our skies. The last total eclipse in our area was 400 years ago and the next total eclipse will not come around again until 2399. Because of its rarity, many people will be eager to get a look at the eclipse and it is expected that many visitors will be in our community next week.

Ward Street Closure for Water Infrastructure Maintenance

Please note that Ward Street, spanning from Elgin Street North, to Rose Glen Road, inclusive of Deblaquire Street North to College Street, will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, March 27, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This closure is necessary to facilitate the upgrade to water infrastructure servicing the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink on Ward Street.
Throughout the duration of the closure, local traffic and emergency services will maintain access without disruption.

Filming Activities on Queen Street – March 27 and 28

Reaper’s Image Productions is expected back in Downtown Port Hope next week to film more scenes for their upcoming project, “Greetings from Fairview”. Set dressing will be taking place from March 24 to 26 with filming on March 27 and 28 inside and outside the Capitol Theatre. Please be advised of the following impacts:
Wednesday, March 27- Queen Street (from Walton Street to Augusta Street)
- Intermittent pedestrian delays: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Intermittent traffic stops: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Council Approves Heritage Permit for the Demolition of Unsafe Portions of Cavan Street File Factory

At a Special Meeting last night, Council considered staff report PS-06-24 recommending that a heritage permit be issued to proceed with the demolition of Block 2 of the structure at 121 Cavan Street, as requested by the owner of the property.
