Community Engagement Opportunity for 41 Young Street

The Municipality of Port Hope is inviting residents to learn more about the future of the municipally owned property located at 41 Young Street and to take part in the community engagement process.

The property is currently designated as parkland in the Official Plan and zoned as ‘Open Space’. Council has identified the need to increase affordable housing options in Port Hope and has directed staff to explore whether this site could contribute to meeting that need.

The land was recently remediated through the Port Hope Area Initiative. With this work now complete, we are beginning conversations with the community about potential future uses of the site. We are committed to open, honest, and meaningful engagement, and community input will play an important role in informing any future decisions for this property.

Community Open House

Residents are encouraged to attend the upcoming Open House to learn more, ask questions, and share their perspectives before any decisions are made.

• Location: Town Park Recreation Centre, Room 3

At the Open House, staff will:

• Share information on why the site was selected for consideration
• Provide information on the purpose and benefits of affordable housing
• Gather feedback on opportunities to retain parkland or park features on the site

Most importantly, the Open House provides an opportunity for residents to ask questions, offer comments, and contribute ideas.

Next Steps

Feedback gathered through the Open House and online engagement will help staff prepare future recommendations to Council. Should changes to the Official Plan or Zoning By-law be proposed, a Statutory Public Meeting will be held as part of the formal application process. Details about that meeting will be shared if and when an application proceeds.
