Community Unites to Plant More Than 130 Trees at Rapley Park as Part of TD Tree Days
For Immediate Release
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 - Port Hope, ON
More than 130 new trees were planted at Rapley Park on Sunday as community volunteers, Members of Council and TD executives joined the Municipality of Port Hope's Environmental Advisory Committee for a successful TD Tree Days event.
The tree planting brought together pre-registered volunteers of all ages who spent the afternoon enhancing the local green space, which contributed to the long-term health of the environment and helped grow Port Hope's urban forest.
Each year, TD works with local not-for-profits, municipalities, conservation authorities and Indigenous communities to bring planting events to life. This event created opportunities for Port Hope to come together, spend time outdoors and make a positive environmental impact. Port Hope was proud to be among 75 participating communities across Canada taking part in the 2026 initiative.
"Community-led initiatives like this help strengthen our commitment to a sustainable future," said Olena Hankivsky, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. "The addition of these trees at Rapley Park will provide lasting environmental benefits for years to come, while helping to create a greener community."
Throughout the afternoon, volunteers learned proper planting techniques from certified arborist and Environmental Advisory Committee member Josh Bobyk before working side-by-side to plant trees, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability and enhancing public spaces. The newly planted trees will help improve local biodiversity, enhance wildlife habitat, contribute to cleaner air and strengthen the community's tree canopy.
The Municipality extends its thanks to TD Friends of the Environment, members of the Environmental Advisory Committee and all volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making the event a success.
