Filming Policy Review Underway
The Municipality of Port Hope is undertaking a comprehensive review of its Filming Policy, including the permitting process, to ensure it is clear, fair, and effective. This initiative aims to protect our community, reflect local needs, and maximize the economic and cultural benefits of filming in Port Hope.
Our historic downtown, heritage streetscapes, and proximity to the Greater Toronto Area have made Port Hope an attractive location for film productions. While filming brings valuable opportunities, it can also present challenges such as traffic disruptions, parking pressures, and impacts on local businesses.
To strike the right balance, the Municipality is conducting a Film Permitting Audit. This review will:
- Assess the current permitting process and internal workflows.
- Benchmark Port Hope’s practices against other Ontario film-ready municipalities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline approvals and enhance communications.
- Develop recommendations to strengthen the permitting process, ensuring it supports film industry interest while safeguarding residents, businesses, and community life.
Community Input is Vital
We are seeking feedback from residents to better understand the impacts of filming—both positive and negative. Your input will help us:
- Identify the types of disruptions that matter most to the community.
- Build safeguards into the permitting process to minimize disruption.
- Shape a policy that reflects the values and priorities of Port Hope.
