Residents are advised that the intersection of Toronto Road/Victoria Street South and Ridout Street/Lakeshore Road will be closed beginning Monday, September 28, at 6:00 a.m. for approximately three days (reopening by Wednesday, September 30, at 9:00 p.m.).
If possible, please avoid the area and use an alternate route, as traffic delays are expected. We recognize that this corridor is an important travel route for many residents and businesses, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while this necessary work is completed.
This closure indicates a significant milestone in the Victoria Street/Toronto Road Construction Project. During this closure, crews will be running the new watermain through the intersection (north and south) and connecting it to the existing main that runs east and west. To ensure the safety of the community and workers, the best option is to close the intersection while the work is being completed.
Additional information:
- During the closure period, local detour routes will be in place and clearly signed to direct traffic around the work zone. Please obey all signage and traffic control personnel. Detours include:
- Ridout (West of lights): Ridout Street to Shortt Street to Bruton Street to Toronto Road
- Ridout (East of lights): Ridout Street to Bramley Street N. to Charles Street to Toronto Road
- Victoria Street North: Victoria Street N to Charles Street to Bramley Street N. to Ridout Street
- Toronto Road: Toronto Road to Charles Street to Bramley Street N to Ridout Street
- Trucking Route: Heavy trucks are to use Jocelyn Street to avoid the closure
- There will be no sidewalks/pedestrian access through the intersection. Please use caution and obey all signage/closures if walking in the area.
- For safety and emergency vehicle access, there will be no parking on Charles Street and Bramley Street North during this closure.
Transit Impacts
Transit Route A will be detouring around this area for the duration of the closure. As a result, stops A8, A9, A10, A11 and A12 will be temporarily out of service. If you require transit service while the stops are unavailable, please contact the Supervisor, Transit at 905-885-9891. Our team will do their best to accommodate riders, where possible, using the ROLLS vehicle.
Please note: These dates are weather dependent. In the event of rain or other adverse weather conditions, the closure and associated construction activities may be postponed and completed on the next available working day. If this is the case, we will provide updates to this notice.
