New In-person Engagement Drop-ins for the Ward Boundary and Council Composition Review
In 2025, the Municipality began the process of reviewing the current Council composition and ward boundaries. This work examines how effectively the existing structure and ward divisions work for our community. It considers several key factors, including population size, geography, community history, shared interests, and representation of minority groups. In the fall of 2025, the project consultant Watson & Associates Economists Ltd., conducted research and worked with municipal staff on the first phase of community engagement for the review. In November 2025, the consultant presented their preliminary findings in an Interim Report to council. The consultant then returned on December 2, 2025 for further discussion with Council.
Residents are now invited to participate in the next phase of engagement. We are hosting a variety of drop-in engagement sessions where residents can share feedback on the current Ward Boundary and Council Composition Review.
Whether you’re curious about how ward boundaries are drawn, what Council representation could look like in the future, or simply want to stay informed, these sessions are a great opportunity to get involved and help ensure that our local government reflects the needs of our growing community. Upcoming sessions include:
- Monday, March 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Canton Community Hub (5325 County Rd 10)
- Monday, March 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jack Burger Sports Complex (60 Highland Drive)
- Wednesday, April 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Port Hope Public Library (31 Queen Street)
- Wednesday, April 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Canton Community Hub (5325 County Rd 10)
At these sessions, residents will have the opportunity to meet directly with the consultants leading the review, ask questions, and share their perspective. Attendees can explore detailed information boards that explain the purpose of the review, the options being considered, and how potential changes could shape the way residents are represented on Council.
Additional details about the project, and in-person sessions, including dates and times, are available on the engagement project page.
An online survey will be shared in the coming weeks for those who prefer to provide their feedback virtually. Stay tuned.
