2026 Municipal and School Board Elections -
Notice to All Municipal Electors in the Municipality of Port Hope

This notice is for anyone interested in being a candidate in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Nomination forms (Form 1) for the offices listed below must be filed, either in person or by an agent, with the Clerk/Returning Officer during regular business hours from Friday, May 1, 2026, to Thursday, August 20, 2026, and on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

You must book an appointment to file your nomination. To book an appointment, call 905-885-4544 or email.

Potential candidates must also file the required Endorsement of Nomination form (Form 2) with signatures from at least 25 people who are Canadian citizens, are 18 years of age or older, and have a qualifying address in the Municipality of Port Hope. Candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain more than the minimum 25 required signatures to help ensure compliance and account for any potential invalid or ineligible signatures. The Endorsement of Nomination (Form 2) does not apply to School Board candidates.

When you file your forms, you must also pay the required filing fee: $200.00 for Head of Council (Mayor) and $100.00 for all other offices. Payments can be made by cash, debit, certified cheque, or money order payable to the Municipality of Port Hope. The filing fee for School Board Trustees candidates must be paid to the appropriate office listed below.

Candidates cannot raise or spend any money on their election campaign until they have filed the appropriate nomination forms. For full details about the nomination process, contact the Clerk/Returning Officer by email.

Offices for Which Persons May be Nominated

 Mayor (1) to be elected at large

 1 Mayor

Nominations for this position must be filed with the Office of the Municipal Clerk, 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.

 Councillor (6) to be elected by electors in each respective Ward

Four (4) Councillors – Ward 1

Two (2) Councillors – Ward 2

Nominations for these positions must be filed with the Office of the Municipal Clerk, 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.

 English Public School Board Trustee  

Two (2) Trustees to be elected for the combined area of Municipality of Trent Hills, Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, Hamilton Township, Municipality of Port Hope, and Town of Cobourg.

Nominations for these positions must be filed in the Town of Cobourg Municipal Clerk’s Office, 55 King Street West, Cobourg.

 English Separate (Catholic) School Board Trustee

One (1) Trustee to be elected for Northumberland County.

Nominations for this position must be filed in the Town of Cobourg Municipal Clerk’s Office, 55 King Street West, Cobourg.

Conseillere(ère), Conseil scolaire Viamonde

One (1) Trustee to be elected by all French Public electors in the areas of the Region of Durham, County of Haliburton, County of Northumberland, County of Peterborough, City of Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, and City of Quinte West

Nominations for this position must be filed in the City of Oshawa Municipal Clerk’s Office, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa.

Conseillere(ère), Conseil scolaire Catholique MonAvenir 

One (1) Trustee to be elected by all French Catholic electors in the areas of the Region of Durham, Counties of Northumberland and Peterborough, and Cities of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, and Quinte West. 

Nominations for this position must be filed in the City of Oshawa Municipal Clerk’s Office, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa.
