Below is a summary of key items discussed at the Municipality of Port Hope regular Council Meeting held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. The full agenda and staff reports are available on the Council Portal. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting was held electronically via video conference.

Cannabis production resolution support

A resolution is being prepared for presentation to Council to support a request from the Township of Asphodel-Norwood for a governing body in cannabis production that:

• Takes a unified approach to land use planning restrictions;
• Enforces the regulations under the Cannabis Act on behalf of the licencing agency and ensures local authorities are in fact provided with notification of any licence issuance, amendment, suspension, reinstatement, or revocation within their region;
• Communicates more readily with local governments; and
• Provides local governments with more support.

This request was sent by the Township of Asphodel-Norwood to the local Federal and Provincial Members of Parliament, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and all municipalities across Ontario.

Council will consider this resolution at their next Council meeting on November 3, 2020.

2021 Budget consultation

Municipality of Port Hope staff are currently developing the 2021 Capital and Operating Budgets. This process is one of the most important tasks carried out by staff as the budget takes many months of planning before it is presented to Council for consideration.

As part of the 2021 budget development, Council has identified a number of special projects to consider for inclusion in the budget, if feasible. These projects have been posted on My Port Hope, the Municipality’s community engagement webpage, to gather feedback from residents. Pedestrian crossings consultation

The Municipality of Port Hope has identified a need for pedestrian crossovers on Peter Street and Ontario Street, in the Urban area of Port Hope. The Municipality has retained the engineering services of GHD to design these pedestrian crossovers and staff in the Works and Engineering department will work with GHD to complete the project.

Information about the crossovers, including the locations and the proposed designs, are available on myporthope.ca. Residents are encouraged to review the posted materials and share their feedback with municipal staff and GHD staff.

Minutes from this meeting will be available pending approval at the next Council meeting on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at which point they will become the official record of the meeting.
