Monday, November 4, 2024 - Port Hope, ON

At a recent Council meeting, staff from the Economic Development division presented a report outlining the 2024 marketing campaign for Port Hope Tourism, titled “Close to Home, Far from Ordinary”. Launched in March of this year, this campaign has been attracting audiences by highlighting the unique experiences and distinctive charm that makes Port Hope a standout destination. As the holiday season approaches, here's how the campaign continues to attract locals and visitors alike, highlighting Port Hope as a top destination for unforgettable travel experiences.

Highlighting Port Hope’s Unique Appeal

The campaign celebrates Port Hope’s year-round allure through a variety of platforms to connect with diverse audiences, including:

  • Social Media and Digital Outreach: Through social media, including Facebook and Instagram and other digital platforms, the campaign is sharing the beauty of Port Hope’s landscapes, events, and community. With curated messages via Programmatic Audio on Spotify, listeners are inspired to embark on their next adventure here. So far, the social channels have seen impressive results, including over 750,000 impressions, 30,753 engagements, and 48,653 video views. Visit Port Hope’s Tourism Facebook and Instagram pages to see the magic in action.
  • Print Features: Ads and features included in publications such as Canada Travel & Lifestyle Magazine, Watershed, Toronto Star, and Globe & Mail, have reached over 4 million readers across the GTA and beyond. These features share in-depth stories that highlight Port Hope as a must-visit destination for every season.
  • Influencer Collaborations: Partnering with top influencers has brought a fresh perspective to the campaign, spotlighting hidden gems like quaint cafes and scenic trails. Their content has garnered over 100,000 video views, encouraging audiences to explore Port Hope firsthand. See an example of an Influencer post from fringinto.
  • Radio Advertising: The campaign airs over major stations including CityNews 680, CHUM FM, Classical 96.3 FM, Boom 97.3, and CHFI 98.1. These spots have reached millions, keeping Port Hope top of mind for GTA audiences planning their next getaway. Listen to an example of an ad about the Salmon run.
  • Out-of-Home Advertising: The campaign includes billboards on the 401 and Gardiner Expressway, capturing the attention of commuters and travelers alike. These outdoor ads, paired with targeted promotions, reinforce that Port Hope is just a short drive away.
  • Marketing Collateral: A tourism brochure complements these efforts by offering detailed maps of both downtown Port Hope and the surrounding rural areas, alongside parking guides. For a personalized experience, QR codes link visitors to themed, self-guided tours.

This campaign is more than just a series of ads - it is an open invitation to experience the charm, beauty, and rich culture of Port Hope. From serene landscapes to a vibrant downtown and cultural events, there’s something here for everyone. We are excited to continue to share our community’s story both locally and afar and welcome visitors ready to create their own.

The campaign’s success is also attributed to the key campaign messages, including:

  • Welcome to Port Hope – A Small-Town Experience: Discover an authentic small-town charm where each corner has a unique story to tell.
  • Eat, Shop, Play, Stay – Something for Everyone: Whether you're enjoying local cuisine, boutique shopping, entertainment, or cozy accommodations, there’s something for every taste.
  • Extraordinary is Closer Than You Think: Uncover hidden gems, historical treasures, and scenic beauty—all just a short drive away.
  • Easy Access via Highway 401: With convenient access via Highway 401, your adventure to Port Hope begins with ease.
  • Scenic Route Along County Road 2: Consider a scenic drive along County Road 2, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Lake Ontario shoreline as you approach our enchanting town.
