Temporary Road Closure and Transit Detour – Cavan and Walton Street Intersection
As part of the ongoing Walton Street Reconstruction Project, crews will be working at the intersection of Cavan Street and Walton Street on Thursday, August 7, 2025, which will include some additional road closures and a limited water shut off.
This milestone marks the final connection required to complete the upgraded water system in Phase 3 of the Project.
Road Closures
To safely carry out the work, the following road closures will be in effect beginning at 7:00 a.m.:
- Cavan Street (from south of the Cavan Street Parking Lot to Walton Street – Residents will maintain access to their properties).
- Walton Street (from Cavan Street to John Street).
- Brewery Lane closed to traffic, emergency access will be maintained.
Water Shut offs
Temporary water shut offs to a few select buildings will also occur in the affected area Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to accommodate essential watermain connections. Affected residents are encouraged to draw sufficient water in advance and keep all faucets closed during this time.
Businesses and residents in the affected area have been notified of the water shut off via hand-delivered notice.
Transit Impacts
During the closure, Port Hope Transit Routes A and B will be detoured to avoid the construction zone:
- Route A will detour via Ontario Street, Barrett Street, Cavan Street, and South Street. No stops will be affected.
- Route B will detour north on Ontario Street and continue its regular route to Mill Street. (Stops B2, B3, and B4 will not be in service during the closure).
For a visual representation of our transit routes, please review our interactive transit map. For more information on our Transit Services, visit porthope.ca/transit.
This closure is anticipated to last one to two days. Crews will open the affected roads as soon as the work is complete and it is safe to do so.
