‘Meet the Candidates’ Web Page Launched Ahead of Upcoming 2022 Municipal Election
The municipal election is just over a month away and the Municipality of Port Hope has launched a ‘Meet the Candidates’ web page to help voters find out more about the candidates running in the 2022 municipal election.
“The ‘Meet the Candidates’ web page is a tool for electors to review candidate information. Hosted through the election website, porthopevotes.ca, this web page offers electors a central location where they can identify the candidates they are eligible to vote for and obtain a summary of each candidate’s platform” notes Brian Gilmer, Municipal Clerk and Returning Officer. “It is a unique service that Port Hope, along with very few municipalities, is offering to the electorate. Our goal is to encourage electors to learn more about candidates by reviewing their profile. Electors can contact candidates directly if they have more questions. We want you to be informed about your candidates, so that you can get out and vote this October.”
Valuable feedback from past elections made it clear to staff that the community has a desire to be able to access basic candidate information from a centralized platform. Hosting this information on the porthopevotes.ca website ensures that electors can access that information with ease. Each candidate running for the offices of Mayor, and Councillor was given the opportunity to provide a photo, contact information, website and/or social media links, and a short platform message to include in their profile on the ‘Meet the Candidates’ web page. Information on the page was provided directly by candidates and was not altered or edited by municipal staff.
Contact information for each School Board Trustee candidate is also listed on the page.
In the Municipality of Port Hope, voting can be done online or by phone starting Friday, October 14 at 10 a.m. until Monday, October 24 at 8 p.m.
