On Thursday, April 1, 2021, the Provincial government announced that it is imposing an “Emergency Brake” across Ontario beginning Saturday, April 3, 2021 as a result of the increase in COVID-19 infections provincially and to prevent the further spread of the virus. In response to the new measures from the Province, Municipal operations will continue as follows:

COVID-19 Arena Update

On Monday, March 8, 2021, Port Hope, along with all of Northumberland County, was moved into the Yellow-Protect Zone of the Provincial COVID Response Framework. As such, Parks, Recreation and Culture staff have reviewed current protocols and updated arena operations.
Spectators permitted for Minor Hockey and Figure SkatingSpectators are now permitted inside the arena, along with accompanying guardians, for minor sports bookings (Minor hockey and figure skating only).

Network Interruption at Jack Burger Sports Complex

On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the Municipality is upgrading the wireless network at the Jack Burger Sports Complex (JBSC). While the upgrade is taking place, access to email, internet, payment systems, and phones will not be available in the building.
The network upgrade will impact online and over-the-phone operations at the facility. Programs for the pool and arena will continue to be offered; however, reservations for these programs must be completed by end of day on Monday, February 22.

Municipality of Port Hope Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Director Jim McCormack has announced his plans to retire this spring, after more than three decades dedicated to public service, over twenty of which were spent in Port Hope.

No Reservations Required at Caroline Street Rink

As the Municipality has been placed into the Orange Zone of the Provincial COVID-19 Response Framework, and to accommodate changes in municipal operational and staffing needs for recreation facilities, effective Thursday, February 18, reservations are no longer required to skate at the Caroline Street Rink.
Those who have already booked a reservation at the Caroline Street Rink from Thursday, February 18 to Saturday, February 20 have been contacted and advised of this change.
