Ontario Government Launches Consultation on Ganaraska River Fishing Regulations

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking public input on proposed changes to recreational fishing regulations for the lower Ganaraska River. These proposed changes focus on adjusting the salmon fishing season dates and aim to:
- help protect vulnerable migrating Chinook salmon during peak migration
- provide extended angling opportunities for Atlantic salmon, brown trout, Pacific salmon, and rainbow trout in the fall season.

Update Regarding Ongoing Fire Investigation at Former File Factory

Following the large fire at the former File Factory (121 Cavan Street) on July 14, 2024, this notice serves to update the community on the current status of the fire investigation.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has completed their on-site investigation and returned control of the property back to the owners earlier this week. The Corporation of the Municipality of Port Hope has passed an amendment to Development Charges By-law 63-2019. The amendment deletes the expiry of the 2019 Development Charges By-law currently in effect. This Amendment was passed by Council on July 9, 2024 through By-law 43-2024.
