Wildland Fire Management Plan
The Municipality of Port Hope has introduced a new Wildland Fire Management Plan to help protect the community from the growing risk of wildland fires.
As climate change brings hotter, drier conditions and more extreme weather, the risk of fires is increasing across Ontario - especially in areas where homes and natural landscapes meet. This plan outlines how Port Hope will prepare for, prevent, and respond to wildland fires, while helping residents understand how they can reduce risk on their own properties.
Developed by Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services in collaboration with provincial and local partners, the plan strengthens emergency preparedness, improves response planning, and identifies high-risk areas across the municipality. It also introduces the FireSmart Canada program, which provides practical, easy-to-follow guidance for residents to help protect their homes and neighbourhoods.
Together, these actions will enhance public safety, support firefighters, and help build a more resilient community today and into the future.
