Chris Collins is Appointed Justice of the Peace and Resigns from Municipality of Port Hope Council

The Provincial Government announced today that Chris Collins has been appointed as a Justice of the Peace. Per the Justices of the Peace Act, Mr. Collins is no longer eligible to serve as a Member of Council for the Municipality of Port Hope. This is due to the requirement that a Justice of the Peace must terminate other employment and abstain from engaging in any political activities upon appointment.

Municipal Recreation Cancellations

Due to persistent inclement weather, the Municipality has cancelled its registered recreation programs for tonight, including Junior Chefs, Yoga and Duplicate Bridge at Town Park Recreation Centre and all swim lessons at Jack Burger Sports Complex. Credits will be applied to accounts for cancelled classes / activities.

Committee of the Whole Meeting Postponed

In light of adverse weather conditions, the Committee of the Whole meeting originally planned for this evening has been cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
The decision to cancel and reschedule the meeting aligns with the stipulations outlined in the Municipality’s Procedure By-law. The safety of our staff, Members of Council, and community remains our priority and we appreciate your understanding.

Starting in 2024, the new Procedural By-law is in effect, bringing about changes to the Council and Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting schedule and structure.
