To address community concerns about low-level Radioactive waste and industrial waste in the community, a legal agreement was made between the Municipality of Port Hope and Canada to conduct a large-scale environmental clean up effort, paid for by Canada, in return for hosting the long-term waste management site.

You may have noticed that our beautiful Downtown looks a little different lately. These changes are only temporary to accommodate filming for the production “Greetings from Fairview” that will be taking place on Walton Street, Queen Street, and in some residential areas throughout May. Residents can expect temporary parking impacts, road closures and intermittent traffic stops that may cause delays. Pedestrian traffic and storefront access will be maintained. Update - Wednesday, May 10, 2023
Work is progressing well on the final elements of Phase one of the Walton Street Reconstruction. Due to the recent inclement weather and other factors out of our control, the closure of Walton Street has been extended to May 19, 2023. We apologize for the delay and are working hard to complete this phase of the project. If work is completed in advance of the target date, the road will be opened accordingly.

Annual Roads Resurfacing Program Begins

Residents are advised that our annual roads resurfacing program begins this week. This annual capital project protects our road infrastructure and addresses any paving issues in both the urban and rural areas. Each municipal road is rated as good, fair, poor, or very poor based on the quality of the road surface. The road paving schedule is prioritized based on this rating system.
