The Town Park Recreation Centre was constructed in 2002 and underwent an expansion project that was completed in 2023. The facility is host to our many of our recreation programs and activities, our Youth Centre, our various Day Camps, and the Agricultural Society’s Port Hope Fair.

Cameco Gymnasium

Come experience our indoor gym at the Town Park Recreation Centre. Our gym hosts a number of our recreational programs - both registered and drop-in. 

Gym

Our gym can be divided into two single gymnasiums, includes bleachers and is air conditioned. Often used for sporting events (basketball, volleyball, pickleball, etc), dinner banquets and conferences. Great for licensed events such as Jack and Jill's. Roll up door to a full kitchen. Showers and lockers in each of the men's and women's change rooms.

Multi-purpose rooms and Youth Centre

Come experience our indoor gym at the Town Park Recreation Centre. Our gym hosts a number of our recreational programs - both registered and drop-in.

We have five various sized multi-purpose rooms at the Town Park Recreation Centre. These rooms are often utilized for our recreation and culture programming. Rooms available to rent outside of the recreational programming hours.

Our Youth Centre is a safe and inviting space for youth to socialize and engage in activities.  Bring your friends and come join the fun!

Skate park

Outdoor spaces 

Don't miss these free and fun park features, also known as Town Agricultural Park. 

Skate Park

The skate park was a new addition to Town Park in 2010. All wheels welcome! Ride the rails, ramps, and steps.

Fall Fair Centre

Home to the Port Hope Fair, this is an unheated multi-purpose facility, only available May to September for rentals.

We have five public art pieces on display at the Town Park Recreation Centre: Couleurs du Nord Youth Centre Mural, Sports Day mural, Redevelopment mural, and two pieces commemorating the life and work or Ruth Clarke.

Community groups who call us home

Town Park Recreation Centre is home to a variety of community groups, including The Port Hope & District Agricultural Society, The Port Hope Racquet Club, Northumberland Minor Soccer and The Northumberland Baseball Association.

Call for Committee Members

Looking for ways to give back to your community? We are currently recruiting for committee opportunities within the Parks, Recreation and Culture department that are not Advisory Committees for Council, but rather serve to steer programming and initiatives within the department. 
55+ Program Committee
The Municipality of Port Hope 55+ Program Committee will work collaboratively with Municipality of Port Hope Staff  to provide comments, advice and suggestions on recreational and program opportunities, promotion of activities and engagement of older adults in Port Hope.  

Objectives

  • Create opportunities for feedback and communication for older adults
  • To promote involvement, commitment, goodwill and participation among older adult groups and individuals
  • Support and assist with planning and delivery of activities and special events throughout the year
  • Identify barriers to participation faced by older adults and recommend possible solutions
  • In collaboration with municipal staff, form partnerships in the community to educate, inform and improve quality of life for seniors
  • Represent the needs and interests of older adults and work collaboratively with municipal staff to ensure program offerings are relevant
  • Assist with recruitment and coordination of volunteers

Committee Composition

  • 5 members at large representing the diverse interests of seniors in the Municipality of Port Hope. Consideration will be given to ensuring representation from different activity, age and geographical groups/individuals.
  • 1 representative from the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee
  • 2 Municipality of Port Hope staff including the Older Adult Coordinator, who will serve as the Committee Chair
  • Other Municipal Staff and delegates may be invited to provide input at times.  
  • Guest speakers and presenters may request to attend meetings in writing to the Committee Chair two weeks in advance of the meeting.

Staff Support

The Older Adult Coordinator will be responsible for chairing all committee meetings.  In addition, staff will provide administrative support such as scheduling meeting, preparing agendas, recording minutes and preparing background information and reports. 

Term

  •  2 year term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. 
  •  The Older Adult Coordinator will serve on the committee continuously. 

Meeting Frequency

The committee will meet monthly January to June, once in July or August, and monthly from September – December.
